Studies have shown that consuming vitamin C supplements does not provide the same protective benefits as drinking a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. While the multitude of health benefits of vitamin C has been associated with a reduced risk of death from all causes including heart disease, stroke and cancer. Carrots as well have been shown to have small but significant effects on colon cancer while beets are currently being studied for their effects on colon, stomach, nerve, lung, breast, prostate and testicular cancers. Beets are also a significant source of folate, which is critical during pregnancy, and magnesium, which is severely deficient in the typical Western diet.

Dairy Free Maple Iced Coffee

Liz and I love our coffee. Liz is more of a “bucket-sized” regular coffee kind’a gal and I love my espresso and espresso-based coffees. But with our very hot summer temperatures of 30+ °C (86+ °F) for our good friends south of the border), plus humidity—I don’t really crave hot beverages. Cue the frozen caffeine! Who’s the genius that came up with the idea for cold coffees? This person should win an award… or maybe they already have? A standing ovation to you [applause applause applause]. Well, to get the facts, a quick check-in with our good friends Google and Wikipedia (where would we be without them?) brought up information about this frozen cup of awesomeness.

Fully Raw Vegan Cranberry Sauce

Fully Raw & Vegan Cranberry Sauce

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup of fresh cranberries (red as possible)
  • 1 cup of freshly pitted dates
  • 1 honeycrisp or fuji apple, cored and quartered
  • 1-2 cups freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 sprig herb of choice like rosemary or basil
  • 1 handful of dried raisins to sweeten, optional

DIRECTIONS

  1. Add all ingredients to WildSide+ or FourSide jar in order listed and secure lid.
  2. Blend on “Batters” or on a Medium speed for 30 seconds. If too chunky, Pulse until desired texture is reached.
  3. Store in refrigerator overnight.

Balsamic Vinaigrette Salad Dressing

Sometimes we’re so busy with the turkey and pies that we forget about the salad dressing. Instead of heading to the store, make your own balsamic vinaigrette. It’s a cinch to combine these ingredients in your Blendtec blender and keeps out chemicals and preservatives – that’s something everyone can get behind!

Balsamic Vinaigrette Salad Dressing

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic, quartered
  • 1 small squirt of dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp honey, optional
  • salt, pepper and basil to taste

DIRECTIONS

  1. Add all ingredients to a Twister, Mini WildSide or FourSide jar and secure lid.
  2. Blend on “Batters” cycle or a Medium speed for 30 seconds.
